Easter 2024

We continue to support and nurture 17 scholars at the  Government Day Secondary School. Our children receive an education, food, spiritual support, and all the basic necessities. Life in Nigeria can be brutal and harsh, but we are doing what we can for these orphans.

Medical update

The mobile medical unit ran into some logistical problems with operating at our facility, so they recommended taking our girl with leukemia with them back to Gombe. Not knowing how long her treatments will last or if they will be successful, we have begun proceedings to put in her the legal custody of Alhasan Uhmah Child  Care, an Islamic charity. We trust God this is all for the best.

Big News to Share!
At the suggestion of our doctor and good work of the school principal, we have arranged for a mobile cancer treatment facility to be located at our property. The team of doctors arrived Thursday morning to set up. Treatment resumed that afternoon. She is in good hands and getting great treatment and will hopefully cost us less in the long run.

December 2023 update

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our campaign to raise funds for the January 2024 school term and food.  We have 18 students enrolled and ready to learn.

We have recently learned of the diagnosis of leukemia for one of our students. A 15-year-old girl, who has been frequently sick lately, had testing done to confirm her blood cancer possibility. Chemotherapy and radiation treatments have begun. If you are able to contribute to these significant and ongoing medical costs, we greatly appreciate your support. Prayers are welcome also.

November 2023 update
We are raising $3,600 to provide an education and healthy food for 18 students
These orphans continue to live in community at the school. We respond to many daily needs, but our primary goal it to transform lives through education.  Please contribute if you can.

October 2023 update

In an attempt to streamline efforts, the regulatory agency in Nigeria overseeing child care facilities decided every facility must house at least 40 students. Since we have 18 and are not interested in changing our core purpose and adding more, we challenged their decision. Our reasons were met with understanding and we have approval to continue operating as we have been in 2024 and beyond.

We are actively fundraising to meet the financial needs of enrolling 20 scholars in school and feeding them every day. This will cost about $185 per student, so our goal is $3700 which is due August 4. This represents an increase from previous years due to rising costs in Nigeria. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Updates will be posted below.

We are taking advantage of a new opportunity that may transform our work with these children. The Sisters at the Our Lady of the Apostles Children's Home in Jos have agreed to take our orphans into their facility. We sent two, a 15-year old girl and a 12-year old boy, to live with them on September 1. They will no longer be in our care and we trust their lives will be enhanced by their new surroundings. It is possible to send additional children to live with them, but at a cost of around $1000 per child. We are currently considering this possibility. It is a big decision and not without some serious implications.

Enrolling 20 scholars this fall

Fees for enrollment and food are due on August 4 and although these have been sent, I am awaiting confirmation that they have been received. Your prayers are appreciated.
